The architectural fountains installed by Safe-Rain were greatly placed at the Start of the 71st Edition of the Cycling Tour of Spain 2016. The Inaugural Event of the Tour took place on August 20th in the fine Galician village of Laias (Ourense). Water was the protagonist of the idyllic landscape: Minho River’s crystal-like water surface turned into the best background for the event, while Safe-Rain’s water features adorned the moment with their original, imposing and fresh presence. Riders, guests and visitors enjoyed a sunny day with a fine blue sky in front of which the floating fountains, the water tunnels and the digital water curtain by Safe-Rain shined on their own.

The water features by Safe-Rain also stood out some days before, specifically during the Team Presentation Gala celebrated on August 18th in the afternoon. The architectural floating fountains showed off behind the stage, where former runner Perico Delgado and radio announcer Carlos de Andrés introduced the teams. The water features created an amazing corps de ballet that accompanied the stellar performance of Spanish singer Marta Sánchez, one of the most magical moments of the event.

The presence of water

The most important cycling event of Spain (and one of the prime sporting events of all Europe) started out its 71st Edition in a bucolic place, on the banks of Minho River and close to the Villa Termal Laias (Laias Spa Complex). Safe-Rain’s water features turned into a tribute to the watery soul of the location, with water all around giving birth to a lavishly green landscape. This place is near to valuable cultural and historical milestones such as the Castro of San Cibrán de Las (an ancient Celtic fortification), one of the most important exponents of pre-Romanic Galicial culture, and the Oseria Monastery, famous for being the place where the ‘eucaliptine’ (a fine artisanal liquor) is brewed. Laias is only 15 kilometers from Ourense, known as ‘the city of water’ for the presence of the Minho River and its thermal waters.

‘Star’ water fountains for cycling stars

The relevance of the event was such that Safe-Rain had to do their best and choose the most ‘stellar’ architectural fountains from their catalogue. Striking, dynamic and fully modern solutions were chosen so the presence of water could be accompanied by a proper use of the movement and the space. The water features were set in the starting line, where structures for the riders were mixed with specific zones for the visitors. On the other hand, the great water surface created by the Minho River turned into the ideal background to place the floating fountains. This way, the architectural fountains chosen for the occasion by Safe-Rain created an ephemeral, magical and fresh atmosphere that became a real success.

The first stage of the Tour ended the same day in Castrelo do Miño, a village located 28.7 kilometers from Laias. There, the riders stood on a podium behind which two fine floating fountains could be admired as they danced on the Minho River water. Their elegant presence contributed to celebrate the end of the first team time trial and became a beautiful tribute to the winners.

A subtle water curtain

But surely, one of the event’s main protagonists (with the permission of the riders) was the digital water curtain installed by Safe-Rain in the starting line. This structure created a lovely frame in front of the impressive Minho River and became the perfect location for the race’s starting signal. A linear water curtain was chosen, a spectacular architectural fountain composed of multiple vertical water jets that make up an amazing water tapestry. Over this tapestry it is possible to write, draw logotypes and generate different movement effects. The Tour logo and the inscription LA VUELTA ’16 were printed on the top structure. This great feature shone in the middle of a happy and festive atmosphere, enhanced by a cloudless sky and a bright sunshine.

Floating fountains during day and night

Through the digital water curtain and over the silvery waters of the Minho, the presence of the floating fountains and their water jets created a magical and elegant background. Easy to install, these architectural fountains are a great solution for ephemeral installations where saving time becomes essential. The models chosen for the Cycling Tour include LED RGB light fixtures: during the night, the water features changed their appearance in a very stylish way by adding light and color to their magical design.

Fresh interactive water tunnels

Aiming to mix aesthetic interest and fun, Safe-Rain installed two water tunnels that were a real sensation among the event visitors. On one hand, a tunnel with thick and high water jets was created to frame the start of the race and cover the riders. On the other hand, visitors could walk under another water tunnel composed of four thinner water arches. The riders’ tunnels included four lance water jets designed to reach high altitudes; the visitors’ tunnel included four CRISTAL water jets with a minimal installation and the possibility of including light all along the water’s trajectory.

A great choice for an unforgettable moment

The greatly-chosen architectural fountains and their careful disposition created a wonderful frame for the Inaugural Event of the 71st Edition of the Cycling Tour of Spain 2016. The freshness, the glow and the elegance shown by the digital water curtain, floating fountains and water tunnels were key elements for a truly unforgettable day. This new case of success for Safe-Rain shows that our architectural fountains are the best choice to dress up the most special moments and places.
