Decorative indoor fountains

Indoor fountains are decorative and functional elements, designed to fill with beauty and personality important indoor spaces. These fountains are usually present in big indoor areas, especially communal spaces – from office buildings to malls, hotels, lobbies, museums, clubs, restaurants and private areas, among other possibilities. These fountains can display different designs: from classical figures to contemporary proposals. Cascades, waterfalls and water walls are good examples, but due to their special configuration we will talk about them in specific articles.

Aesthetic is queen

Differently from outdoor architectural fountains, residential fountains are not relevant as urban features and are not designed to serve as landmarks. In this case, the aesthetic appeal is the main focus. A well-designed indoor ornamental fountain, properly balanced and with a nice combination of volume and movement, is a valuable decorative item perfect to make a difference anywhere. And we must say: even for the most complex designs, indoor fountains’ technology and equipment are usually simpler than those of outdoor fountains.

Discreet and elegant fountains

An indoor fountain must be a remarkable element but must never interfere in the surrounding space or the transients. The fountain should not cause discomfort or splashing nor generate high noise, as these factors can be annoying for the people that attend the space. In order to create attractive effects and keep them under control there are different types of nozzle available. Among them we can highlight the ‘Mushroom’ and the ‘Calix Jet’ types: their names are inspired in the shape of the water jet. These jets are short and low-noise, so they are commonly used in indoor fountains. Though, any nozzle that does not generate splashing or noise could be advisable for a residential fountain.

Careful design

In this regard, the fountain’s design is relevant too. The distance from the nozzles to the edge of the pond also impacts on the splash control. When more powerful jets such are used, they must not be very tall; as for the diameter of the nozzles, it should not be very thick. These details, among other options, make it possible to control the fountain’s splashing and noise.

Water in great condition

In every type of fountain, it is basic that the water remains always in optimal condition. This is especially true if we are talking about an indoor fountain. If water gets stagnant or is not well treated, it can generate inconvenience in the form of bad smell or microbiological contamination. This is why it is necessary to install filtration and treatment systems that keep water in good shape. Among other options, the most usual systems are:

  • Sand filters: Similar to those used in swimming pools to remove impurities.
  • Pumps: They suck water, push it through the system and return it to the pond once filtered.
  • UV Water Sterilyzer: They are mandatory by law in any fountain where water can be reached by people. In general, the system consists of a number of pipes equipped with UV lamps that let water pass through them. UV light kills germs and the system pushes out treated water.
  • Some systems also add special substances to water in order to regulate and control the pH, though they are optional.

Let there be light

Residential fountains need a proper illumination that makes it possible to appreciate their attractive all day long. In this regard, it is basic that the design takes in consideration the ambient light that will surround the fountain in its definite location. The fountain’s light should interfere with the atmosphere the minimum possible, and vice versa. So it is advisable to conduct a detailed study of the location before starting with the design.

Underwater lights for indoor fountains

Indoor fountains do not usually mount high or thick nozzles. So it is possible to illuminate them in an optimal way with affordable and quality solutions, such as white or RGB underwater dichroic lights. For any place where style and modernity are a must, underwater LAKE lights (made of inox) are an excellent option.

Impeccable finish

In this type of architectural fountains installations are more visible than in outdoor fountains. So it is important to provide them with solutions that hide and dissimulate any wire, pipes, junction boxes and other elements. A good example is the use of tramex grid, a great choice for fountains that require an impeccable finish. With this solution and other options, equally efficient, it is possible to accomplish a perfect look and a higher security level for any kind of indoor fountains.

Thanks for your comment. We are sure that any of our fountains specially designed for indoor installation will satisfy your requirements, depending on the available space you have. Personally, I would recommend our Water Wall feature, due to its characteristics are very suitable to install indoor. If you provide us with additional information, we could advise you on other possible options, such as pool water fall weirs, calyx or mushroom nozzles.
